Kids Love Gardening!
The Summer Kids’ Workshop at the Cooma Community Garden was a great success.
16 kids came along with their parents, grandparents, carers and siblings to create some magic in the garden, which is located in the Uniting Church Grounds in Soho Street. A group from Cooma OOSH joined us as well—what a crowd!
First on the agenda was some maintenance, with some weeding and pruning of the beds the kids planted at the October ’09 Workshop. The garden paths were also given a facelift.
The kids then put heaps of new plants in, including both veggies and flowers, and harvested some early tomatoes and zucchinis.
A much needed-break for morning tea was a great opportunity for Sue Bailey to share some of the great books Cooma Library has on gardens and gardening for kids.
Thanks to Cooma Community Garden for hosting us, and to the Uniting Church for donating the hall facilities. Big thanks to Pete Mitchell for being a great workshop leader. Thanks also to the McGuffickes for bringing along some home-made biscuits to share for morning tea. And of course thanks to all the kids who came for their hard work and enthusiasm. We couldn’t have done it without you!
